Monster!

There’s a monster in my closet,

He’s big and scaly green,

With the most humongous tail,

You’ve probably ever seen.

The monster sleeps all day,

And only wakes at night,

Usually when I’m snug in bed,

Warm and tucked in tight.

I’m sure I hear him rattling,

He waves his tail about,

And so I get up from my bed,

To go and let him out.

 

I tremble as I walk,

I’m scared he’ll take a bite,

Right out of my pj’s

In the middle of the night.

 

But…

 

I get to the door

and what do you know?

Monster! Monster!

Where did you go?!

Back to the place where monsters grow!

HEY THERE’S NO MONSTER HERE!

 

There’s a monster 'neath my bed,

He blows out bright blue smoke,

My parents think I made him,

I tell them it’s no joke.

I gather up my courage,

And look under my bed,

Just to double check,

The monster has been fed.

 

(I don’t want the monster to feel,

He has to eat me for his meal).

 

But…

 

Under my bed

What do you know?

Monster! Monster!

Where did you go?!

HEY THERE’S NO MONSTER HERE!

 

There’s a monster on the ceiling,

I can barely make him out,

In the dark he looks real eerie,

With a big obnoxious snout.

He looks like he has wings,

And could fly about the room,

I think he’s just about to move,

I think I hear him zoom!

So I get out of my bed,

And crawl up on a chair,

And peer into my telescope,

To see if he is there!

 

But…

 

I look through my ‘scope

And what do you know?

Monster! Monster!

Where did you go?!

Back to the place

Where monsters grow!

HEY THERE’S NO MONSTER HERE!

 

Grown-ups says by nightfall,

All monsters have been fed,

And so I shouldn’t worry,

That they’ll crawl up in my bed.

But I’m the one that knows,

That they’re wide awake at night!

And that they really clomp around,

Until the morning light.

 

And so when all the grown-ups say,

Let your worries fade away,

I pretend to play their game and say,

I guess the monsters went away.

 

I say to the grown-ups

What do you know,

Monster! Monster!

Where did you go?!
